This is one date I always remember each year. I have never thought up any other way to commemorate it other than recognize that it was on this date on August 14, 1842. Colonel William S. Worth issued orders from his headquarters on Cedar Key that on this date all forces would stand down, and declared that the end of hostilities would take effect on August 14th. The next day a commemoration ceremony was held in St. Augustine, St. Francis barracks, where the remains of Dade and his men were movred to the military cemetery. I have written about this on my web page, so no more to say here.
