Salties out, Freshies in

A couple weeks ago we had some heavy rain, and that seemed to wipe out a lot of the mosquitoes. I think it was mostly the salt water ones.

Well now they are getting cranked back up, and it is the freshwater skeeters. These ones are worse, because they are more apt to carry the mosquito-borne illnesses, like West Nile.

Only certain mosquitoes carry the virus, but we aren't sure which. But with most all types of mosquitoes down here, you don't want to take the chance.

The last time the virus was detected here by the Sentinel chickens was 2005 or 2004. But it could come back. Strange enough, the virus has been worse in the midwestern states than here. The migration of the disease has not taken the expected path that had been anticipated.
