Yesterday my Dad called me in the morning and said that my Mom had a stroke. So I have been worried and pretty upset since then, and calling the other family members. There are a lot of advances in medicine these days, and some people recover completely, so there is optimism. I just won't know anything until this weekend, so I am very upset.
The cold weather hit us by surprise, after last week when it hit 100 degrees down here for the first time since last fall, and last night it dipped into the upper 40s. My little flying squirrel Stubby has bundled up in his nesting box, so I didn't take him out last night. He was wrapped up in there so cozy that I didn't want to disturb him. I felt it, and it is very warm. Those little furry flyers know how to build a nest.
Also yesterday, I got the news that I didn't get the job in Palatka that I had interviewed for. That is a shame, because I would have been back in flying squirrel territory in north Florida. The manager at that park is really nice and gave me a phone call with some very good advice. So for now, I am still down south. And I really appreciate that he called me and talked about my interview for several minutes. The previous job that I interviewed before at a different park, I was notified by automatic letter from Tallahassee Human Resources, which I thought was a pretty crummy way to notify someone when applying for a management level position. So I think very highly of the manager in Palatka, and know that his employees have someone who is really concerned and really cares for people. Even though I didn't get that job, I think very highly of the manager there. And there will be other opportunities down the road.
And also, April 15th is the day that President Lincoln died in 1865. Another bad sign.

Hi SeminoleWar. Can you help me? Because I live in Florida my friend has asked me to find him some Books on Seminole Wars in Florida. He is looking for a book/s with "the more war pictures the better". I appreciate it very much if you have any ideas. I also wanted to say I am sorry about your mom having a stroke. I hope she gets better.
P.S. I have researched as much as I can on the internet and can't seem to find any books that are mostly pictures. He would like good quality pictures. I have even researched Coffee Table type books but to no avail.
My email address is
Thank you for your msg.
As you have probably found out, there are not a lot of images of the Seminole War. The first war where the camera came in use was 25 years later during the Civil War. So there are a few hand-sketched images scattered in various sources.
You might want to start by checking out the library, and the bigger the collection, the better. Look for Florida collections too.
I have put a list on Amazon.com listmania of books that are Seminole War Essential readings. You can copy down the titles and look form them at one of the big book sellers as well.
I hope this can help!
I am sorry, it seems like my link to the listmania is not working. Just go to www.amazon.com and in the search line, type "Seminole War". The next page that comes up will have the listmania links to the left, and mine is at the top, "Seminole War Essentials."
