For the past few years, the Mexican Bromeliad Weevil has devastated areas of native bromeliads in south Florida. A new bio control has just been released as reported on NBC2 news. This is great news, because bromeliad populations have been totally wiped out in parts of Big Cypress, Bear Island, Fakahatchee, Rookery Bay, Panther Refuge, and Naples.
You can read the story at the NBC-2 website.
This bio control is a fly that feeds exclusively on the evil weevil. Testing has been done for the past several years, and it is now being released.
