Some humor from the recent 1812 Grand Tactical event that I attended.
One of the reenactors in the US who portrays a British officer took a trip to Scotland last year. He was riding a train through the country, when he saw grazing sheep out the window. Forgetting where he was at (so he claims), he remarked, "Look, Scottish war brides!" He received angry glares from the surrounding passengers.
We were going over our battle scenario for Saturday with both the US and Royal forces. We were discussing the fighting in the town, going from street to street. The American forces would be falling back through the portal of the building known as the 1840s toll gate. Someone remarked, "Quick! Somebody's gotta go back and get a shitload of dimes!" (A line taken from the movie "Blazing Saddles.")
Saturday night was officer's call when the Commander of the Royal forces invited the American commander over. There was much socializing and drinking. As the American commanders were preparing to depart the Brit camp, they were shown nearby, where two Brit captains were passed out drunk on the grass. Traveling back to the safety of the American commander's tent, we were still not safe. One of the Redcoat officers followed us back to ensure that his prized collection of liquor was shared by his new-found friends. The next morning on Sunday we attended the church service to repent for the night before, and the pastor leading the service was the same redcoat who took us down the path of sin with his liquor collection the night before.
I noticed that you can buy those throw-away cameras in the Walgreens or other photo places. They now have digital throw-aways for about $30 each, but worth looking into. You can delete the photos you don't want on them, and they have about 25 photos storage.
