I just finished reading the Spring 2007 issue of "Forum," the magazine of the Florida Humanities Council.
The theme of this issue is the Seminole and Miccosukee Tribes going from poverty to prosperity, and the challenges along the way. What they will be like in the next generation we can only guess, but they are masters of their future. The ball is in their court.
Articles feature Betty Mae Jumper, Buffalo Tiger, James Billie, Bobby Henry, and others you will probably recognize. These people have made a lot of effort for the tribe to become what it is today.
But the article I found most inspiring was the very last one. Two poems by Moses Jumper, Jr. It is the glades through the eyes of the Seminoles. It has inspired me to write about my own life in the glades. Stay tuned for that.
