A few more photos from my trip. East of Niagara in the town of Lockport, you can see the old canals, part of the Erie Canal completed in 1825.

And downriver is the most unusual railroad bridge. Why was it built this way? Because the river traffic and the locks were the biggest competition to the railroad. So they built the span upside down, which would only allow ships on the river under 15 ft high.
