The National Portrait Gallery was very kind to call back and say that they have located the William Augustus Bowles painting in England. Uptown or Uptonshire, or Up something. They are trying to get it on loan for an exhibit that will run from September to December at the gallery in Washington City. The display covers things in American history from 1763-1848. (My favorite period in history.)
It will also have on display the Adams-Onis Treaty. That is the treaty where Spain ceded Florida to the U.S. in 1819. Neat!
